Allied Supports Caterpillar in Bonneville Power Administration Fleet Upgrade

Take a look at this impressive upgrade to the fleet of dozers owned by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), based in Portland, Oregon. It includes three Cat D5K crawlers equipped with Allied H4A hydraulic winch and six Cat D6K crawlers equipped with Allied H5C hydraulic winch. Caterpillar Defense and Federal Products Group purchased the winches from Allied, and had them installed by local Cat dealer Peterson Cat in Portland.

BPA will use the dozers in maintaining their extensive network of power transmission lines throughout the Pacific Northwest. The D5K dozers will be used in part to pull power poles out of the ground. The Allied integral arch on the winch provides greater lift and more control over the pole as it comes out of the ground. The D6K dozers will be used for power-line sagging applications. The hydraulic winch delivers precise control over the position of the line, allowing the power line to be tensioned to exactly the right level.

The Allied H4A and H5C winches feature a "plug-and-play" design concept. The dozers did not need any winch-ready options from the Cat factory, which shortened the lead time and reduced cost considerably. With a non-winch-ready dozer in stock, you can deliver a winch-equipped dozer at much shorter lead time and at lower cost, thanks to this approach.
