New W6G Winch Features Equal Fwd/Rev Line Speed

Externally, the W6G winch looks much like the W6F. Inside, lots of enhancements bring you even more value.

The latest addition to the Allied family of winches is the W6G winch. As the successor to the W6F, the W6G builds on the long and proud history of the W6F—introduced in 1973 and became one of the most successful and trouble-free winches ever built. To give our customers even more for their money, we have added some important new features to make the W6G even better than its older brother.

The W6G fits models of crawlers that the W6F powershift winch supported. If you've grown accustomed to the W6F over the years, there's almost nothing new to think about with the W6G. Even the external attachments are the same as their W6F counterparts.

The new features make this winch especially useful for today's demanding winch applications. The biggest change is that the line-in and line-out line speeds are now identical. This feature is especially suited for oilfield work and yo-yo applications, where equipment needs to be lowered at a controlled rate. The slower reverse line speed allows for greater control in the line-out direction.

The W6G has an even lower gear ratio for precision work. The standard gear ratio is 45:1, and the lower ratios are 83:1, 103:1, and 153:1. The new 153:1 gear ratio will be valuable for certain oilfield applications. The exact choice of gear ratio options depends on the tractor model, and is found in the current price sheet.

Mounting the winch is now easier. With the W6F, it was necessary to remove a top cover as part of the mounting process. With the W6G, the mounting holes are located outside the winch case, so that the winch case remains sealed.

Servicing the winch is now much easier. Even with a change of friction disks, the W6F required shimming. Now, it's possible to change friction disks with no re-shimming necessary.

With the two clutches and the brake all on the same shaft, the winch offers equal forward and reverse line speeds. The gear train is simpler, too.

In fact, the need for shimming has been eliminated. Now, thanks to a screw adjustment, backlash and bearing pre-load can be set quickly without shims.

While our winch engineers were designing these new features, they added lots of small enhancements that will help increase the reliability of the winch. And extend its life even longer.

People frequently inquire about moving the winch from one crawler to another. The new W6G requires no dropbox, so that will help expand the possibilities for moving the winch to other tractors.

Allied engineers sought to maintain as much compatibility of parts between W6F and W6G as possible. Approximately 75 percent of the parts are the same between the two winch models. This is particularly valuable for wear parts, allowing you to use most of your existing parts inventory to support both models.

For those of you just learning about the W6G, you don't have to worry about any new product "teething" problems. The W6G has been in limited production since 1995, and has been well tested since then. The overlap with the W6F has allowed us to bring the W6G into full production with total confidence.

The W6G winch comes with a standard push/pull control, or with optional electronic controls. The eControl joystick makes precise line speed control easy, and the connection is a simple matter of plugging in the control wire harness.

We're confident the W6G winch will be a worthy successor to the legendary W6F.
