Allied’s hydraulic winches come mostly in two main styles—high-performance (Hi-P) version, with dedicated high-flow pump, and rescue version, which generally is powered by tractor ripper circuit. By eliminating the need for dedicated pump and controls, the rescue winch provides a lower-cost alternative for a winch. But it delivers slower line speed. The Hi-P winch is equipped with a two-speed motor. We are now extending the 2-speed capability to the rescue winch on Komatsu D51. Although the overall line speed may still be slower than the Hi-P version, the new 2-speed motor allows for twice the line speed under lightly loaded line conditions, compared to the single-speed motor. Peak line pull remains the same under loaded conditions. Effective immediately, all H5C rescue winches for Komatsu D51 will be outfitted with a 2-speed motor. For H5C rescue winches currently installed on D51, we have created a retrofit kit, part number 2312193, to permit upgrading those winches to 2-speed capability.
