Fire Plow

Firefighting typically brings to mind fire trucks racing through city streets. But in certain parts of North America, forest fires are an ongoing menace that must be contained in order to protect human lives, property, wildlife and the natural environment. In the Southeastern US in particular, many state forestry departments are equipped with fleets of crawler dozers outfitted with both a towing winch and a fireplow as one of their main firefighting vehicles. The fireplow is used to clear the ground of flammable material to create a firebreak. The winch is used to move downed trees and to allow the crawler to work on steep hillsides. A reliable Allied winch behind the vehicle gives the operator the confidence needed to take on a life-threatening task, knowing that they can get out of a problem area quickly and predictably.
